  1. How-to
  2. Removing a Lazy Bag (T009)

Hello everyone, and thank you for joining us for this new SailHero tutorial.

Do you want to remove your lazy bag for winter storage or servicing? In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to do it, step by step.

The lazy bag is an essential piece of marine upholstery that protects your mainsail on a daily basis. Its purpose is to effectively cover the mainsail and protect it from the elements. Regular maintenance can significantly extend its lifespan.

Let’s now take a look on board at the key points to ensure that your lazy bag remains in good working order.

Tools required

·         Lashing ties

·         Pliers

Step-by-step

1.       Place a lashing tie around the sail, inside the lazy bag, at the level of each lazy jack.

2.       Connect the lazy jacks to these lashing ties.

3.       Slightly hoist the sail using the lazy jacks.

4.       Disconnect the ties securing the lazy bag to the boom.

5.       Roll the lazy bag around its boom bolt rope, then slide it forward to remove it.

6.       Remove the battens.

7.       Carefully roll up the lazy bag for storage.

Important

Do not leave the battens exposed to sunlight. Fiberglass is sensitive to UV radiation.

Store the battens either inside the boom, taped together, or inside the boat.
