Hello everyone! Today we’re showing you how to easily maintain your Furlex furling system.

It’s a simple operation that you can carry out yourself to ensure smooth rotation and avoid any unpleasant surprises at sea.

Follow the guide — it’s quick, effective, and should be done at least once a year!

Why is it important?

The Furlex furling system is essential for furling your genoa. A poorly maintained system can lead to:

• A risk of jamming
• Premature wear
• A risk of damaging the forestay

With proper lubrication and a few visual checks, you can extend its service life and improve your comfort while sailing.

Equipment needed

For this maintenance, you will need:

• Warm water for rinsing
• Specific Furlex grease
• A cloth
• A screwdriver or Torx key
• Pliers

Steps

Step 1 – Rinse with fresh water

First of all, rinse the furling system thoroughly with warm water to remove salt and dust. Allow it to dry.

Step 2 – Lubricate the key points

Point A: hole on the lower mechanism → apply grease

Point B: at the front of the tack swivel

Point C: in the groove between the end fitting and the drum

Point D: bearing underneath the drum → remove the two drum halves if necessary

Points E & F: bearings of the halyard swivel (upper and lower)

Tip:

Don’t use too much grease — just enough to lubricate without it running or dripping. Apply the grease with your finger or a small brush if necessary.

Point D is less heavily loaded, so lubricating it every other maintenance is sufficient.

Visual checks

While you’re at it, take a close look at:

• The halyard leads: file down any sharp edges and replace the rope as soon as you notice damaged strands
• The general condition of the drum and screws
• Any signs of corrosion or excessive play

And that’s it! Your Furlex furling system is ready to rotate smoothly, just like on day one!

Don’t wait until you have a problem at sea: carry out this maintenance at least once a year, or at the end of each season if you unstep your mast.
