Hello everyone, and thank you for joining us for this new SailHero tutorial.

You have just received your new SailHero lazy bag, and in this video, I’m going to show you how to install it.

The lazy bag is an essential piece of sailboat canvas work. It protects the mainsail on a daily basis and is handled several times throughout the year. Its main purpose is to effectively cover the mainsail and protect it from the elements.

Let’s take a look on board at the key points to ensure that your lazy bag works properly.

Installation steps

1.       Lay the lazy bag flat on the deck.

2.       If they are not already installed, insert the battens and secure them inside their pockets.

3.       Roll the lazy bag up, leaving the bolt rope accessible.

4.       If the sail is already rigged, secure it with lashing ties at the level of each lazy jack, and keep it above the boom by connecting each lazy jack to its corresponding lashing tie.

The lazy bag must be easy to engage from underneath the boom.

5.       Insert the lazy bag’s bolt rope into the boom track.

6.       Open the lazy bag on both sides of the boom.

7.       Connect the lazy jacks on one side to the lazy bag.

8.       Lower the sail between the boom and these lazy jacks.

9.       Connect the other side of the lazy jacks to the lazy bag.

10.   Secure the lazy bag in its longitudinal position by closing the zip at the front, near the mast. The zip should close without forcing it.

Important: make sure the sail is properly covered on both sides.

11.   Tension the front cord.

12.   Then tension the rear cord.

13.   Pass the rear elastic through the ends of each zip and then over the topping lift. This keeps the zip above the sheaves at the aft end of the boom.

14.   Close the lazy bag and check that the zip closes smoothly, without forcing it.

15.   If this option has been selected, connect the Secu Sail* system (safety shock cord).
