Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to show you how to install a genoa on a furling system, step by step.

You’ll probably need to carry out this installation at least once a year.

For this installation, you’ll need: pliers, a batten feeder if your genoa has battens, and a set of Allen keys if required for your shackles.

Choose a day with light winds and position the boat head to wind. The sail will remain unfurled throughout the operation.

The steps:

1. Load the furling line into the drum, making sure it enters the drum from the side opposite the UV protection strip.
2. Lay the sail out on deck, on the leeward side, from the luff towards the leech.
3. Connect the tack.
4. Connect the sheets and prepare the leeward sheet around the winch.
5. Check that the halyard is not crossed or twisted.
6. Connect the halyard and the swivel.
7. Feed the sail into the furling system’s foil groove (remember to fit the feeder if your furling system requires one).
8. Hoist the sail.
9. Tension the luff to remove the horizontal wrinkles and allow a slight fold, parallel to the luff, to appear along the forestay.
10. Furl the sail as soon as possible, keeping tension on the sheet to ensure the sail is tightly rolled.
11. All that’s left is to clean up the deck and coil the ropes.

Remember to secure the furling line and properly lock the sheets under tension, clean the deck, coil the ropes and carry out one final visual check.
