Hello, and thank you for joining us for this new tutorial.
Today, we’ll show you how to install a furler and its furling line circuit.
A well-designed furling line circuit and proper orientation of the furler are essential for smooth and easy furling of your sail.
Required tools:
• Allen key (hex key)
Step-by-step instructions :
1. Install the furling line easily using the notch on the toothed pulley of your furler. Rotate the drum in the direction of the ratchet.
2. Attach the tack of the sail to the furler drum. Open the turret axle by pulling both lashing lines. Insert the thimble into the shackle and close the axle.
3. Connect your furler to the bow of the boat (bowsprit/pulpit/bow roller).
Note: For a Code Zero that requires high luff tension, install a bowsprit stay to relieve the vertical load on the support.
4. Attach the swivel to the head of the sail. Open the turret axle by pulling both lashing lines. Insert the thimble into the shackle and close the axle. Then attach the halyard.
5. Tension the luff to check the alignment of the furler housing.
6. Adjust the housing orientation — it is delivered unlocked to allow for proper setup. On first use, align the housing so the furling line runs straight to the first lead block. Avoid any friction at the housing entry points.
7. Unroll your furling line and remove any thimbles so that both ends of the circuit run parallel.
8. Pass the furling line through the first, then the second lead block.
9. Attach a sandow to keep slight tension on the furling line.
Note: For smooth furling, the sail luff must be under good tension. Once unfurled, you can slightly ease the tension to adjust sail shape.
Important:
If you only have one sail on a furler, we recommend storing the system with the sail inside a bag, in a dry place when not in use.
Most furlers are designed to operate maintenance-free for many years. However, rinsing the mechanisms with fresh water as needed is a good practice.
IMPORTANT : Never use lubricants like WD-40 (or similar).
